People frequently ask these questions
Can I purchase ShopMate outright instead of subscription, what is the difference?
Yes.
You may purchase ShopMate outright. If you purchase ShopMate outright
and wish to network ShopMate (more than one user working on one database
at the same time) after, you must purchase network user licence(s) for each additional
user. ShopMate comes with one network user.
When subscribed to ShopMate you can have unlimited number of users connected to
one database at the same time. We have great price specials all the time so, please,
check with us.
Please note that all updates and any new versions of ShopMate are available free
of any charge to all owners of ShopMate, subscribed to or outright purchased.
Why do we have to download ShopMate to update, can't the updates be done automatically?
Depends.
If you downloaded the zipped file from our website, unzipped it and ran the installation
of ShopMate from the result, then it was the Windows Installer Installation
of ShopMate. If you ran the installation from our website without downloading anything
first, then it was the Internet Installation of ShopMate.
Windows Installer Installation (DEPRICATED NOW).
No.
This download was the packaged, major distribution software CD disc, the image of
which was meant to be burned to your own memory stick, CD or DVD for better archiving,
after you unzipped the download to anywhere on your machine or network. You could run
the installation from where ever you unzipped the file to by running the setup.exe
executable file. You also had to do this for every ShopMate update you got. This sort of
installation is not supported anymore.
Internet Installation.
Yes.
The machine(s) you want to setup ShopMate on must have access to the Internet Network,
then use the Internet Installation Setup of ShopMate. You will be automatically notified about
any future updates, you will not loose any settings you may have set (sql server
and database connection) and installation of updates and new versions is done behind
the scenes, with little interaction automatically, you do not have to do anything else.
See this article for more information on Internet Installation Security.
Who owns the Sql Server that was installed on my machine with the ShopMate Installation, database and the data it contains?
You own all of the accumulated data in the database. There may be some restrictions
imposed by Microsoft concerning the database ownership in relation to the Sql Server.
Check with Microsoft.
The Sql Server Express Edition that comes with the ShopMate installation
is given to you legally, by Microsoft permission to us to distribute it and is owned
by Microsoft but you have an unrestricted licence to use it.
Please read the Microsoft EULA (End User Licence Agreement) that comes with the
sql server. The ShopMate program and its Sql Server Database Structure is owned
by Softhard Solutions Australia, even if you purchase it outright, we give
you life time permission to use ShopMate.
I live in a country that does not use dollar currency and dollar sign ($). How does ShopMate display its currency in its forms and financial statement reports?
This depends on the machine you are using. ShopMate currency display takes its setting
from your International Currency Setting in your Windows Panel.
Please note that in the early stages of ShopMate development, some ShopMate forms
and reports had the dollar sign ($) embedded. Since then, we think we have eliminated
this sign for international use. If you find this sign in your ShopMate operations
and it should not be there, please let us know about it on our
Support Page.
I installed ShopMate on my machine but in the reports the Dates do not seem to display correctly. Is there anything I can do?
This depends on the machine you are using. ShopMate Dates and Currency displays
take their setting from your International Setting in your Windows Panel.
Make sure that the host (ShopMate's) computer's International date template setting
in your control panel is set to Australian if you live in Australia:
d-MMM-yyyy
(displays 9-Mar-2015), if you are in Australia and it is appropriate. Set this template
appropriately for your country, ShopMate uses it to display its dates to you in
forms. You will find it in the
Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Customize/Date Tab/Short date format
combo
.
Type in the above format (exactly, only the three Ms are in capitals), choose hyphen
as the date separator and press Ok button and then again Ok button. If you do not
do this, ShopMate will display its dates according to this template as default and
the displayed dates may not be what you want them to be. You will find other settings
that you may want to set. Just check it out.
Also make sure that any computer machine(s) on which you want to install ShopMate
has its 'Computer Name' property set. To find out, on your desktop right
click the 'My Computer' icon and select the 'Properties' option. On
the System Properties Settings click the 'Computer Name' tab. In there you
can see the Full Computer Name. If it is not there, push the 'Change...'
button to set it.
